Beyond MIDI: The Handbook of Musical Codes by Eleanor Selfridge-Field,
The establishment of the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (Midi) in the late 1980s allowed hobbyists and musicians to experiment with sound control in ways that previously had been possible only in research studios. Midi is now the most prevalent representation of music, but what it represents is based on hardware control protocols for sound synthesis. Programs that support sound input for graphics output necessarily span a gamut of representational categories. What is most likely to be lost is any sense of the musical work. Thus, for those involved in pedagogy, analysis, simulation, notation, and music theory, the nature of the representation matters a great deal. An understanding of the data requirements of different applications is fundamental to the creation of interchange codes. The contributors to Beyond Midi present a broad range of schemes, illustrating a wide variety of approaches to music representation. Generally, each chapter describes the history and intended purposes of the code, a description of the representation of the primary attributes of music (pitch, duration, articulation, ornamentation, dynamics, and timbre), a description of the file organization, some mention of existing data in the format, resources for further information, and at least one encoded example. The book also shows how intended applications influence the kinds of musical information that are encoded.

Uniform Building Code Compliance Manual: 1997 Uniform Building Code, with CDROM with CDROM by Scott Parish,
Uniform Building Code Compliance Manual: 1997 Uniform Building Code, with CDROM with CDROM by Scott Parish,
Make code compliance a cinch with detailed, project-orientedchecklists. Failure to design to code can cost you: in expensive change orders during construction, costly delays, the loss of client trust and respect, and even litigation. Avoid these time- and money-consuming changes with this invaluable book/CD package. It "decodes" the oftenunwieldy requirements of the Uniform Building Code into practical checklists that you can use to ensure quality control...and makes compliance easy! No matter what stage your project is in or what type of structure you're working on, this checklist-packed resource reduces verification of code compliance to the simple act of running through achecklist. The book reformats the Uniform Building Code into four distinct job stages, each with its own checklists: design; architectural documentation; structural documentation; specifications. Provided in both print and electronic CD-ROM format, this comprehensive collection of clear, complete code compliance checklists simplifies yourrecord-keeping as well as allaying your compliance concerns. You'll also find a Code Information Form for initial documentation of code requirements--plus a Deficiency Worksheet for recording noncomplianceitems found during code review with the checklists. In office, studio, and on-site quality control, the Uniform Building Code Compliance Manual is your key to quick and complete verification.

Daily Source Code - The Daily Source Code is a podcast by one of the founders of podcasting, Adam Curry. Curry talks about his everyday life and events in the podcasting scene or the news in general, as well as playing music from the Podsafe Music Network and promotions for other podcasts.

Braille music - Braille music code allows music to be notated using braille cells so that music can be read by visually impaired musicians. The Braille music system was originally developed by Louis Braille.

Open music - Open Music is music that is shareable, available in "source code" form, allows derivative works and is free of cost for non-commercial use. It is the concept of "open source" computer software applied to music.

International Standard Recording Code - The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC), defined by ISO 3901, is an international standard code for uniquely identifying sound recordings and music video recordings. IFPI has been appointed by ISO as registration authority for this standard.
